First time for us at this restaurant. Excellent service, very comfortable inside, fast & friendly service. Food was perfect and priced right. Our server, Kristen, was fabulous!! Highly recommend this place!

Nope, don't waste your time and money here. Martini special tasted like cherry cough syrup. Menu limited at best and sleepy servers you've got to hunt down to take your orders. We thought they had closed at 445pm 12/20 and I think they should have. Go to the Cottage and get atmosphere and service up the street and let this place fold like it deserves to.

Eat here pretty regularly. Hated that my favorite chicken dish was on the specials list and has since gone away. I literally went there for that. Funny thing is I can't even remember what it was, maybe chicken piccata? All I know is I loved it. Love the bit of spice in the french onion soup. Wish that that WPH pasta had a thicker, hollower noodle. Other than that, pretty awesome. Argh...now I want someone to make me that chicken.

One of my favorite places to eat The menu is great, they are a scratch kitchen (Yum!), I like their beers and the service is good. I wish they used more organic and local ingredients but that is just on my wish list for a lot of restaurants.

Delicious soups and martinis!! Both are so great! I can't decide which I prefer. My favorite lunch order is a cup of their Chicken Tortilla Soup with a side of Tortilla Chips, a small Caesar Salad and the Martini of the Day. They are all so delicious and make me feel like I am still within my gluten free guidelines!

Really good food and great service. The potato soup is delicious!! The prices are slightly higher than a chain restaurant but the food is fresh and really tasty, so it's worth it. Great drinks at the bar too!

Excellent food, excellent service--consistently. Friendly and accommodating staff. Enough said.

Good stuff... Surprised by the negative reviews. Baja fish tacos were outstanding. They used Mahi Mahi which is a huge step up from tasteless Tilapia. Gumbo soup and Clam Chowder also was awesome. Shrimp Diablo..... Oh my was that good. Everything was great. Service was very goof and the menu has enough depth to go back to and explore more. Only reason for knocking off the star was the prices. A little higher than expected at a place like this.

I love this place! They have amazing spinach dip with pita chips. Great service and rarely ever a wait to be seated.

First, the server was great. He was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. 5 stars for that guy...wish I remembered his name. The food was great! We had the baked brie appetizer. Delicious. I then had the French onion soup. Nice, deep flavor. My entree was the filet sandwich. Perfectly cooked, buttery texture. I was totally happy! My friend had a chicken wrap and tortilla soup and was happy with both. Portions were huge. We both took half our entrees home. I will be back!

Retreated here after they said it would be an hour long wait at Dukes. Seated here immediately and ordered a summer martini special. Wasn't anything "special", tasted like it was all juice and no alcohol. Guess that's what you get for 5 bucks. Ordered the filet mignon sandwich, which turned out to be just 2 filet medallions tossed on a bun. Would have been better if it was sliced, or something. Literally a big piece of meat in between bread. Ordered it medium done, came out more medium well. The wine sauce they serve along side the sandwich is more of a jelly consistency and has a strange aftertaste. The fries were steak fry consistency and nicely cooked and extremely fresh. Was very expensive for a steak sandwich. All in all, I should have waited the hour at Dukes; at least I know I would enjoy their overpriced food!

Pretty standard bar atmosphere. They seem to have a descent specials menu that looks to change daily based on what is printed out. The filet mingnon sandwich was pretty good. The baked potato soup was a bit on the leaky side and looked far better than it tasted unfortunately. Service was a little slow but our waitress was trying to manage the bar area all by herself! I'm not sure if this is standard - I got the feeling someone called in sick or something... Overall A-OK place to catch a standard beer or drink and a sandwich.

Service is really slow and the waiter is not attentive at all. The salad when it arrived was great. Waiting on dinner I wonder if out server forgot us again.

Avg at best....want to be a little more upscale than a Chili's/Applebees type of place...but the food the same at best....Can walk to Georgio's, the Cottage, and Finn McCools from there....while those places are not as nice inside, all have better food, and less expensive. PS - went to the one in Woodstock once - not sure if same owners, but MUCH better food

I was pleasantly surprised by this place when I was walking around downtown Crystal Lake. The outside is quite deceiving, but once you're inside its actually quite cozy. Plenty of space and great light near the front of the bar. The service and food was great. We were there for lunch so I got a soup/sandwich combo. The potato soup was awesome. Its also close to the train station, which makes it a good stopover for anyone waiting to head to the city.

I was in here this past Wednesday for dinner , my wife and I had some specials. I had the ceviche tacos ( an unusual choice) I was happily surprised that it was very good , it came with a huge bowl of fresh fruit , my wife had chosen fajitas that where average. I thought for a pub they had a poor beer selection , the place was almost empty and very dark I believe they need to lighten up the atmosphere and turn up the background music a bit, I wasn't trilled with the waitress as it seemed that English was her second language all in all the food was good but with the atmosphere being what it was just couldn't get comfortable in this place

This was my first and only experience with the Williams Street Public House. However, the people I was with said it has been ok in the past for them but nothing special. First of all we were there as a second choice since the pizza place around the corner was packed. We were seated quickly, which was very nice. It was also the Saturday after Halloween so the staff was in costume (which was fun). The service was slow and beyond poor. When we asked for another soft drink it took a long time to come. The did bring beer quickly. I can understand delays when a place is packed with limited staff that wasn't the case. Two of us ordered the pulled pork it was fine, one ordered a burger and one ordered pasta. The pasta was sent back because the diner didn't feel the amount of seafood justified the price (I could go either way on that topic). The burger and one pulled pork had the wrong side dish. The second pulled pork was fine. However, it should be noted that it took a very long time for this food to come out. It was also odd that for as long as it took the food to come out we still didn't have place settings so we had to wait to even start to eat, until they brought them. It should be noted that after the pasta was sent back, no manager or anyone came and commented. They did take the dish off the bill. A bit surprised no one came and said anything. While I will say the place was nice in appearance, the menu had some fun items, the drink specials appeared decent. However, the service was very slow, the food only ok. I wouldn't bother going back again. Which is sad because I like to support small down town type of businesses. If you go I hope you have better luck, perhaps this was just an off night...

This place has great burgers and a nice wait crew. I'm not going to ding them for the racist drunk who was in the bar. I don't want to harp on this old drunk but he's old world thinking. This place was suggested by a girlfriend and I use that term loosely. She also has had a couple good meals there as well. This time we went together and got great service and had a nice time. Suggestion, if you are having dinner there, eat in the restaurant area, the bar needs foam on the ceiling or something. Say hi to the old man hater of all races, nationalities and anything else he has has on his mind. He seems like a regular. I feel sorry for the staff. Now that I think of it, I met the dad who is famous for "S#€¥ My Father Says"! Who knew?

I have eaten here a number of times but as of late it has taken a step downhill. I haven't been there in some time but I suggested to my family that we go there and everyone expressed there interest in not going there again after our meal. I ordered the chicken salad which was "ok" but i could tell everyone else wasn't too happy. I will probably to stick to lunches only for this place in the future. Hope they step up the quality to match what it once was.

I work in Woodstock, so one of our few good meal choices is the Woodstock Public House. When they opened a Crystal Lake location my bf and I started going for dinners, and it's definitely our favorite spot. Everything I've had from either Public House has been tasty and well-priced: Chicken fajita salad is full of grilled onions and peppers, their ranch is delicious. Comes in a delicious baked shell. New Orleans Wrap is very tasty and spicy (crawfish and shrimp! Love it). My boyfriend loves the seasonal Monstro Burrito, which has pork, chorizo, beef, and shrimp. Their soups are all amazing. Baked potato, chicken tortilla, seafood gumbo, all of it! Try them instead of a side salad or fries you won't be sorry. Last night I went a bit crazy and we had the baked brie with raspberry preserves as an appetizer, then I got the steak with blue cheese on it. It's HUGE and enough for lots of leftovers. "Melt in your mouth" is a perfect description. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable about their foods and specials. They check on us plenty although they were busy on a Friday night at 7:30. We love it so much we'll probably have our wedding rehearsal dinner here next year. Their bar area looks fun and popular but we've only been in for seated dinners.

After looking at their online menu, I was very excited to try this place. Once we finally went there, I was kind of disappointed in the food. It just isn't exciting. The descriptions sound wonderful.... like this one..... JUMBO STUFFED PRAWNS - Three extra large prawns, stuffed with crab meat and covered with a layer of Provolone cheese, then topped with a light lemon sauce. Served with vegetables and wild rice. I ordered it, and it was boring. There were 5 of us in our party, and no one was wowed by the food. For the prices they charge, I want to be wowed. Here's something restaurateurs should keep in mind....If your customer can make it better at home for cheaper, they will be unimpressed.

I had the tenderloin salad. It was well prepared but the price should have included some bread. My husbands fish taco's were good as well. All in all a bit overpriced

I've been to Public House 3 times now and all during dinner time. The place is never busy, which after eating there a couple times doesn't surprise me. I feel like the food is just okay and the prices are too high for what you get. The appetizers are really good but how hard is it to mess up spinach artichoke dip? The biggest issue is the service. The are always under staffed and the wait staff is very inconsistent. It seems we always get the waitress who forgets to mention the specials and doesn't come back often enough. I love the atmosphere and location so it's unfortunate that this place just doesn't cut it. Maybe I'll try it for lunch but never again for dinner.

I've been here several times for a workday lunch, with mixed results. If you want a sure thing, go with a WPH burger or create your own. I'm a fan of the brat burger ("seasoned to perfection!"), but some trusted palettes thought otherwise. I'm usually pretty satisfied with the order (I don't stray from the sandwiches, even though they push the fresh fish), but on a few occasions it just seems like I got unlucky with the order. The atmosphere and aesthetics of the place are great (patterned utility brick walls and hardwood floors), and I haven't had a problem with service yet.

Management is horrible. I just moved to Crystal Lake last fall and used to come in quite frequently. A few weeks ago, my girlfriends and I stopped in for dinner and drinks. It took us 2 hours to get our food, which we weren't too upset until they forgot to even put one of our orders in. It took another half hr for that meal to come. No apologies from the waitress or manager. It would've been a nice gesture to comp one of the meals, but at that point even just an apology would've been nice. We spoke to the manager - young girl - and her exact words were..."well you all got your food so I don't see what the problem is". WHAT?!!! It took 2 1/2 hrs for us all to get our food and it didn't even come out at the same time. On top of that - they charged us for 2 extra drinks, which they did agree to take off. Very unprofessional and extremely rude. I will never go back and I've also passed the word on to a lot of people not to go back. Unfortunate.

Fantastic place for food in Crystal Lake. This restaurant is reminiscent of an old English pub, but far more roomier and open. Lots of dark woods and beautifully rendered patterned brick walls. Victorian ceiling. BUT let's talk the food. The menu is wonderful with many unique and signature dishes, Hamburgers served on grilled cibriatta bread, lovely thick pub fries, interesting salads, and very special fish dishes. I was there for lunch and had the prime rib melt sandwich with caramelized unions and manchego cheese--you get the picture--mmmm. We especially liked the Peronis on draft which complemented the food exquisitely. Crystal Lake has a lot of restaurant choices, but this one should not be missed.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I will agree with some of the food critics below...a very interesting menu with great descriptions but a no frills type of delivery. I dont necessarily this that is a negative but can see how others might. The food was good- the staff was, frankly, spot on! I even made a comment to my husband that it was the first time in quite awhile that I thought someone deserved their tip! Her name was Stephanie...! I didnt think it was anymore overpriced than most every other restaurant that claims to be a steakhouse type! Oh, the martinis...mine was perfect except...they were served in some kind of mini martini glasses. I asked Stephanie...next time she comes back to the table...can she bring the other half! Note...Grown ups who drink real martinis...dont think mini glasses are cute! Granted, they were half the price than the norm...but, im in it for the big shabang!!!

The soups alone are worth the trip! Plus, the diy bloody mary bar on Sundays is a must try. Great place for soup, sandwich or burger & a cold beer. Love the interior brick walls & cozy, chill vibe. Kids meals are a big hit w the Littles.

Spontaneous decision to eat here - we we're lured in by the outdoor patio and fireplace and are happy we ate here. The IPA's on tap were a nice selection, the specialty drinks were well done. The burger was nicely cooked, the fries were good, the fish tacos were good - though larger pieces of fish would have allowed the fish to maintain its natural juices better. We came with our 11 & 14 year old children and both the kids menu and adult menu appealed to them. The wait staff was very attentive and did a nice job. We will come back again.

Made reservations for Mother's Day dinner and when we got there they were closed. Excellent management! Won't be trying to come back again.

I've never had a bad meal here........... Their soups are delicious, I love the Chicken Tortilla and my hubby usually gets the spicy seafood gumbo. The burgers are great, the filet and steak sandwiches are phenomenal (that sauce!) and the mahi mahi grilled tacos are fantastic! Batting 1000 in my book - Love this place!
